After last year’s appearance of Jim Peterik’s (ex-Ides Of March) World Stage at the Lokerse Feesten, this year, the annual festival in Belgium, delivered more of the same. This time in the shape of ‘Voices Of Rock Radio’, a new project under the guidance of singer Kevin Chalfant (The Storm, Two Fires, 707). Backed up by his Fly 2 Freedom Band and guitarist Josh Ramos (The Storm, Two Fires), he got himself surrounded by singers Jimi Jamison (Survivor), Wally Palmar (The Romantics), John Cafferty (Beaver Brown Band) and Derek St Holmes (Ted Nugent) to play live the well-know hits of the bands they had been part of in the past. A nice mixture of styles from classic AOR/melodic rock over power pop to some harder driven rock, that nevertheless couldn’t really match the more homogene set of last year’s ride of World Stage through the melodic rock landscape. Though, that changed somewhere halfway the set, when John Cafferty’s “On The Dark Side” introduced the entrance of the twilight, making the light show more effective, and started the jukebox with songs like “Show Me The Way” and the beautiful, crowd-pleasing “I’ve Got A Lot To Learn About Love” from The Storm, The Romantics’ swinger “What I Like About You”, Survivor’s inevitable “Eye Of The Tiger” and ending with Ted Nugent’s “Cat Scratch Fever”.
